Abstract

|
The patients of dysmorphophobia believe that they are physically misshapen or defective in some specific way, although their objective appearance is unremarkable. Their conviction is either a delusion or a overvalued idea, and it is grossly disproportionate to any objective disease or deformity. The onset is insidious, with the concern about one¢¥s appearance developing gradually. It may occur as a nonspecific symptom in a wide range of psychiatric conditions, from schizophrenia to neurosis and personality disorders. The discussion of treatment has been restricted to a handful of case reports, and these have been mainly concerned with pharmacological approaches. Long - term treatment is necessary, as relapse after discontinuation is common. We experienced a case of typical dysmorphophobia. So we report this case with a brief review of literiture.
